Tips on How to Pack like a Pro for a House Move in London

Tips on How to Pack like a Pro for a House Move

As soon as you find out that you are moving, you need to come up with an efficient packing strategy. The main reason for this is that finding the motivation to pack for your removal can be difficult. Some people just don’t know where to start, what to pack first and how to organize. But there is no need to worry if you experience similar feelings because it is common that people feel lost when packing is concerned. Therefore, we give you few useful tips on packing because time is precious and you cannot afford to waste any of yours during your removal.

Start with planning right away

A common mistake people make when moving is that they think they have enough time to plan and organize their removal. A secret to a successful removal is starting immediately. Whether you have three or four months ahead of you, or four weeks, you need to start planning your move right away. Removal is such a situation when the time is the key ingredient that you easily and quickly run out of. This is because you will have so many time-consuming tasks and so many things to take care of that you won’t even know what day it is. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, start planning your removal and packing as soon as you make your decision.

Create and follow the packing plan

Not knowing where to start is a common packing nightmare. You are inspecting all your belongings inside your house and you are scared of the number of items that need to be packed. Perhaps you stare at empty boxes for hours, waiting for the miracle to appear and solve your problem. Instead of that, you need to stop procrastinating and take action. First, you need to try to be positive about packing and understand that the sooner you do something about it, the easier it will be later on. And second, you need to create a packing plan and stick to it. Without a proper organization, you won’t have enough time to complete packing before the moving day, especially if you are moving on the short notice. Therefore, make a detailed packing checklist and stick to it.

Where to start?

This is the big question. But, if you think about it carefully, you will realize that starting with the toughest rooms is the best decision. This is because when you first start, your energy levels are at the highest and handling the toughest rooms won’t be a problem. Leave less demanding rooms for later, once the stress and fatigue get to you. For example, if you pack the easiest rooms first, it can be hard to find motivation for packing miscellaneous items in your basement. Decide what areas are the toughest pack (garage, attic, etc.) and get down to packing.

Declutter, declutter, declutter

After you pick the toughest room to pack, before you actually start, you need to declutter first. There are several reasons why it is in your best interest to get rid of some items first and then pack your belongings:

  • Save time on packing – sure, decluttering might take some time but remember that once you get rid of items you no longer need, you will need fewer items to pack.

  • Save money on packing supplies – after you declutter, you will have fewer items to pack, which means you will need less packing boxes and other supplies.

  • Save money on transportationthe more items you need to transport, the more it will cost you. Therefore, be merciless when decluttering. If you are having second thoughts about whether to keep or discard an item, then you probably shouldn’t keep it.

  • Earn money by selling items – who would ever think that you can actually earn money during your removal?  Well, after you sort out items and decide what not to keep, divide that pile into two more piles: a pile for the trash can and the pile for sale. You can sell some items online or organize a yard sale.

Pack in stages

Before you start packing random items in a room, perhaps you need to make a plan on how to break packing into smaller tasks. For example, when packing your living room, focus on packing ornaments only. And do not start another task before you are completely done with this one. Organisation is the key.

Take rest breaks

After each packing task, remember to take a break. This is very important because you are the main tool of this packing operation and you need to be rested in order to function. It is very common for people to be anxious to pack as much as they can that they actually forget about their wellbeing. You can take a shower and rest on the couch. Go out and catch a movie or have a dinner at a nice restaurant. And if you are rolling your eyes, thinking who has the time for that, don’t. Make time. You need it and deserve it.

Do you need packing assistance?

Of course, you do! You cannot do it all by yourself, especially when lifting and carrying bulky furniture and other heavy items. Be realistic and don’t hesitate to ask your friends and family members to help you pack. Here are few tips on asking friends for help:

  1. Inform your friends of your removal and ask them if they can give you a hand with packing

  2. Consider their busy schedules and be precise considering the date, what items to pack, and other details

  3. Don’t be offended if they are unable to help you out

  4. Use the packing task to hang out, enjoy the time together and say goodbye

On the other hand, a reliable and experienced man and van company in London can provide you with a professional packing assistance if you realize that you either won’t have enough time or that you won’t have any other assistance. They can also provide you with packing supplies and moving equipment. They will ensure to pack your all your belongings strategically and professionally, including fragile and special items.
